The film’s journalist and you can manager, Robert Rossen, creates an excellent multidimensional chess online game, to possess mortal bet, between Johnny, his manager (Thomas Gomez), his boss’s partner (Ellen Received), an excellent cagey cops inspector (Lee J. Cobb), and a beneficial scuffling actress (Evelyn Keyes) whoever brother (Nina Foch) spent some time working at gambling establishment and you will old a good corrupt investigator (Jim Bannon). It is mostly a matter of watching Mr. Powell proceed through their paces fashionably if you are a giant throw from actors and you may performers offer him traditional service. Evelyn Keyes plays the nice absolutely nothing lady who brings out the fresh new best in him and you may Ellen Received is the smooth and you will slinky vixen exactly who gets him towards jams. Thomas Gomez is actually greasy as the villain and you can Lee J. Cobb does an alternate ready tour since the an exhausted cops inspector exactly who eventually shuts the situation.
